Radiographers are the silent heroes of diagnostics: skilled, reliable, and constantly under pressure. Yet when they perform above expectations, what do they receive in return?
Those that read my posts regularly will know I'm passionate about creating environments where radiographers can thrive and build meaningful careers. Recognition is an important part of this. Yet too often, the response to exceptional performance sounds like:
"๐๐ฉ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฌ๐ดโ๐ค๐ข๐ฏ ๐บ๐ฐ๐ถ ๐ฅ๐ฐ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐ด๐ข๐ฎ๐ฆ ๐ต๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ณ๐ณ๐ฐ๐ธ?"
No promotion. No training. No new opportunity.
Just a smileโฆ and the same workload.
This isnโt about being ungrateful, itโs about missed potential.
Pay rises, CPD funding, leadership exposure, and flexible opportunities donโt just reward people.
They retain them.
They grow them.
They tell them: you matter here.
But recognition doesn't have to be about grand gestures. Itโs also about meaningful moments, where people feel seen, supported, and inspired to keep going. In radiography, where pressure is high and visibility low, these moments are everything.
So leaders, ask yourself:
Are you recognising effort and excellence in your team?
Are you developing future leaders, or just delegating?
Are you rewarding performance, or just relying on it?
It's time to:
