Letโ€™s talk about something that's rarely named but is quietly draining our profession:

We often link burnout to being ๐—ผ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜„๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—น๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ.
But what if burnout is also happening because weโ€™re ๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜„๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—น๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ?

Boredom doesnโ€™t shout.
It sneaks in as low energy, quiet frustration, and that hollow feeling like youโ€™ve hit a ceilingโ€ฆand no oneโ€™s noticed!

You stop being excited.
You start counting down shifts.
You feel undervalued. Underused. Uninspired.
Youโ€™re still capable. Still committed. But, you feel stuck.
And when we feel stuck, we lose motivation.
When we ignore professional growth, we lose passion.
And when nothing changesโ€ฆ people leave. Or worse, they stay put, but disengage.

๐—ฆ๐—ผ ๐˜„๐—ต๐˜† ๐—ฑ๐—ผ๐—ฒ๐˜€ ๐—ด๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐˜„๐˜๐—ต ๐˜€๐˜๐—ฎ๐—น๐—น ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ด๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ฝ๐—ต๐˜†?
โ€ข Thereโ€™s no budget.
โ€ข Talent management ends at induction
โ€ข Youโ€™re too short-staffed to even think about CPD.
โ€ข The structureโ€™s flat, and the career ladder ends early (often within 5 - 10 year post qualification)
โ€ข Thereโ€™s a silent assumption that experienced, reliable and still here = fine.

But growth doesnโ€™t always have to mean promotion. Itโ€™s about challenge, creativity, being seen and stretched in meaningful ways.

Thriving teams get this. They create ways for people to evolve, even when moving โ€œupโ€ isnโ€™t on the table. They:

โ€ข Encourage people to lead small projects.
โ€ข Support time for reflection, peer learning or coaching.
โ€ข Ask simple but powerful questions like:
โ€œ๐˜ž๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜ต ๐˜ธ๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ๐˜ญ๐˜ฅ ๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ฑ ๐˜บ๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ ๐˜ง๐˜ฆ๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜จ๐˜ข๐˜จ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฅ ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ ๐˜บ๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ๐˜ณ ๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ?โ€

Even when money is tight, curiosity and encouragement are free, and they go a long way. So if youโ€™ve been feeling flat in your role lately, it doesn't mean there's anything wrong. It means you're ready for more!

And if you lead others? Ask them the question:
